What we collect from your usage
Nothing. Rowan has no account system, no analytics, no server, and no third-party trackers. When the blocker fires on a search, a chatbot prompt, or a triggering page, the text of that query or page never leaves your device.
How the detection model works
Rowan uses a small custom-trained text-classification model. It was fine-tuned before the extension shipped, on a corpus of synthetic and verified health-anxiety queries — never on your data.
The trained model file is bundled inside the extension. Every classification — search queries, AI prompts, page text — runs entirely on your device. The model never makes a network call, and your queries are never sent anywhere, including back to us. Future model updates ship the same way: a new bundled file with each extension update.
What the payment provider collects
To deliver your licence key we use Lemon Squeezy as our payment provider and merchant of record. When you purchase, they collect your email (for delivery of your licence key) and payment details under their own privacy policy. We only receive what's needed to deliver your key.
What's stored on your device
- Your settings: timer length, flagged sites, country, page-warnings preference, and any block-screen note you wrote.
- A local log of block events: the source (search, AI chat, flagged site, or page warning), which button you pressed, a broad theme extracted from the query (never the full text), what triggered the block, and the time.
- Your licence key.
All of this lives in your browser's local storage. You can export the event log from the Data page or clear it from Settings. Clearing browsing history typically doesn't remove extension data, but uninstalling Rowan or your browser does.
What we share
Nothing. We don't sell, share, or transmit your data. There is no server to upload to. The only time information leaves your device is if you choose to email us at support@getrowan.app. If you report a missed or incorrect block, the wording is used only to improve Rowan's detection in future model updates.
Browser permissions
Rowan requests only the permissions it needs:
- Storage: to save your settings and event log locally.
- Scripting: to inject the block screen when detection fires.
- Tabs: to close a tab if you ask it to from the block screen.
- Baseline host permissions: for the search engines and AI chatbots Rowan covers by default (Google, Bing, Brave, DuckDuckGo, YouTube, ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, Grok, Copilot).
- Flagged-site host permissions: only for sites you've added yourself. Your browser prompts per site as you flag them.
- All-sites host permission (optional): only requested if you turn on Page warnings in Settings. Lets Rowan read page text on every site you visit so it can detect triggering content. Reading happens entirely on your device — nothing is sent anywhere.
- Payment host permission:
api.lemonsqueezy.com, used only to validate your licence key at activation and release.
Your rights
- Export your event log: Data → Export.
- Clear your event log: Settings → Clear activity.
- Remove everything: uninstall the extension from your browser.
Changes to this policy
If we update this policy, we'll change the date at the top of this page. Material changes will be flagged in the extension.
